Creatively peripatetic since birth, Karen Chew is a maker of art focusing on mixed media work, paintings, artist books, and ephemera for artists and art lovers.
Karen began to explore art and craft in 1985, honing and hawking ceramic pieces, mainly ducks and bunnies, and a bit of costume jewelry. She forged on with great enthusiasm, delving into anything of interest - freeform ceramics, raku, airbrushing, faux painting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, jewelry, silk painting, floral design, aromatherapy, photography and more.
In 1998, a solo and pivotal trip to Italy reset her artistic compass towards drawing and painting. Karen's endeavors intersect-ed with the world of book arts after visiting the Bay Area Book Artists (BABA) Book Jam. Artist books, letterpress, and mail art soon became a part of her vernacular.
Karen also enjoys the company of her beloved sweetheart, great family and friends, two silly felines and a lovable pooch. She also serves on the San Mateo County Arts Commission.
